The climate won’t be the biggest change you’ll notice in Abu Dhabi. It won’t be the culture either, or the lifestyle. It will be the job you’re doing as you play your part in reforming Abu Dhabi’s education system.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has introduced an innovative and ambitious education reform programme in the Emirate. Its aim is to raise government school education to international standards by working in partnership with private education providers.
CfBT Education Trust is one of the partners trusted to pilot the programme of reform. Under the overall guidance of ADEC, we are focused on equipping young people for life in the 21st century.
Our role in Abu Dhabi involves supporting clusters of government schools, including kindergartens, girls’ and boys’ primary schools and girls’ and boys’ middle and high schools, as they begin teaching English, maths and science through the medium of English. We have numerous opportunities for experienced school leaders, teachers and ESL trainers to join our team in partnership with local schools.
Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates in the Persian Gulf region. It has long been a popular expat destination and the UAE in general, whilst a thriving commercial centre, is attracting increasing numbers of visitors who come for the climate and the surroundings.
Abu Dhabi is a great location in which to add experience to your career. The standard of living is high and it’s also family friendly, with a selection of excellent private schools.
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is Islamic, of course, so whilst the school year is not dissimilar to the Western pattern in having a long summer break, other school holidays are determined by the Islamic calendar.
Along with Dubai, Abu Dhabi is recognised as a place that expats can experience and appreciate cultural differences whilst still being able to enjoy many of the freedoms and comforts of their home country. In the urban areas, you will find broad boulevards with busy designer boutiques, tall offices and residential buildings. The surrounding desert, meanwhile, is home to many villages and smaller communities where a more conservative way of life continues. It is undoubtedly a fascinating place to live.
